After seven weeks of eluding law enforcement officers, thirty- one year old suspected cop killer Eric Frein has been captured by authorities.  Frein allegedly opened fire on Pennsylvania’s Blooming Grove state police barracks, killing Pennsylvania state trooper Bryon Dickson and wounding Officer Alex Douglas on September 12.  Using stylistic survivalist tactics, Frein was able to escape capture by law enforcement for 48 days. On Thursday night, October 30, U.S Marshalls arrested Frein at an abandoned airplane hangar. Frein did not resist capture and was shackled in the handcuffs that belonged to the state trooper that he killed. In a statement, state police Commissioner Frank Noonan stated that Frein was “dedicated to killing law enforcement members” and that he did “not give up because he was tired,” but rather he “had no choice to but give up.”  Due to the danger posed by Frein, one of the FBI’s most wanted fugitives, local communities faced roadblocks, school closings and cancellations of Halloween festivities. Because of his capture, however, local children will be able to participate in trick-or-treating on Friday night. Early on Friday morning, Frein appeared for the first time in Pike County’s Courthouse. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty for Frein, who is charged with 1st degree murder.  He is scheduled to appear again in court on November 12th.
